So I’ve decided to share my first ever short film. Unfortunately, the original example was at least 10-15 minutes long. In my opinion, I think it’s awful, but I felt I could make some improvements because some of the scenes were filmed quite well at the time. So I tried to experiment by cutting the story down to a few minutes. This was my way to see if I can still form a story in less action.
The reason why I’m showing you guys this is because:
Firstly, I remember what it was like just starting out. You start your first project, where you feel you have put your heart and soul in to it, you show it to other people, you have a look at it again and realise that its not as good as you thought.
You start to discourage yourself and start wondering if filmmaking is for you and question your talents. And you know what, its ok to feel this way because, everyone has to go through their own personal trails and tribulations to get better at something they choose to pursue. We all have to start somewhere and we all have to make those mistakes time to time.
Secondly, your work can always improve not just own your own but by collaborating with the right people. A team can make a big different, sometimes you can’t go far without having a team behind you when you fall. Every filmmaker/director you may look up to has a team to support them.
Take a chance at failure. Never let fear decide your future. Always chase your dreams because the negativity usually comes from people who use social network as voice to express hate and get away it. But secretly, they don’t have what it takes to take a chance at something they desire.
Having said that, this is my first short film which I filmed when I was in university bout 4 or 5 years ago. So editing, directing, filming and writing was all new to me. Back then, we used DV tapes so they quality isn’t going to be pleasing to a lot of viewers. Having said that, please be gentle and enjoy 🙂
